An important part of the IPIT mission is to encourage interdisciplinary
bench to bedside research. The great breadth and depth of
IPIT research brings the need for diverse support to enable high
impact work to be conducted. The
UNC research environment is has a rich tradition of offering quality core
facilities, ranging from statistical design to proteomic analysis. IPIT
will facilitate the access of investigators to existing UNC core facilities,
rather than dilute the campus-wide efforts through an IPIT-specific offering. However,
for areas of unique expertise to IPIT members, IPIT will have a small number
of research facilities. The facilities will not be core laboratories,
but rather provide distinct capability to support the research efforts of
