How Can You Get Involved?
By supporting IPIT programs, you play a vital role in contributing to a healthier future for generations to come.  We appreciate your considering a gift to IPIT, an unprecedented opportunity to advance new approaches to patient care and research.

There are many ways to support IPIT, including:

  • Sponsor a specific research project
  • Provide support for a professorship
  • Make a contribution of funds toward a scholarship for the training of students and young researchers.
  • Help name our future home within the Genetic Medicine Building
  • Donate a non-monetary gift, such as artwork, for use in IPIT facilities

Other Ways of Giving

There are other methods that you may wish to consider also.  These can, in some cases, provide IPIT with substantial support while securing a lifetime income and favorable tax benefits for the donor.  Listed below are some of the methods to give to the development of IPIT:

Gift of Appreciated Assets

A contribution of long-term appreciated assets to IPIT entitles you to an income tax charitable contribution deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities at the time of the gift – and you avoid capital gain tax on any appreciation of those securities.

Gift of Real Property

You can contribute real property to IPIT, either as a bequest or more commonly by a lifetime transfer, and realize significant tax benefits.  Gifts of real property can consist of almost any type of property:  a personal or recreational residence, a farm or ranch, a commercial building, subdivision lots or any undeveloped parcel of land.  The gift can be for all your interest in the property or an undivided fractional interest.

Our Development Office is available to furnish you with information for specific needs, or to answer any questions you might have – we also advise you to consult with your accountant to determine the actual benefits to you before making a substantial donation.

Thank you for your interest in the UNC Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy. Your contribution will help us with the means to further our study of adverse drug effects and help us to educate healthcare providers and the public.

An investment in the UNC Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy (IPIT) will help us fulfill our mission to tailor therapies and enable the delivery of individualized medical practice.

Your gift will make a significant positive impact on improving human health. This is how your gift will help:
  • Expand the use of patient genetic information to guide decisions made by physicians about the drugs and doses they select for their patients.

  • Produce patient-oriented tools for consumer decision making.

  • Apply the results generated by IPIT to improve medical treatments.

  • Generate clinical data to support the economic, regulatory and clinical usefulness of pharmacogenomics.

  • Reduce obstacles that slow the progress of pharmacogenomics therapy into medical practice.

  • Support the interdisciplinary approach by fostering collaboration among physicians, pharmacists, researchers and other experts at UNC.

Your contributions help support our research to create effective therapies and precise treatment options for patients suffering from a wide range of conditions including cancer and heart disease.

Your support will also equip a cadre of scientists with a world class education in pharmacogenomics.  IPIT will develop programs to train graduate students, provide graduate student fellowships, and support faculty development through internal grant and fellowship programs.
